Police officer accused of reckless driving

The state of Georgia is showing that exceptions will not be made when it comes to keeping the roads as safe as possible. All drivers are expected to follow the laws when they are behind the wheel, and not doing so can result in tickets, fines and even jail time. Being pulled over can sometimes feel a bit personal, but a recent case shows that when it comes to accusations of reckless driving, no one is above the law.

It seems that a Georgia police officer was travelling in his assigned cruiser when he attempted to pass a fellow motorist. The vehicles were on a stretch of road that prohibits passing, but the officer tried to pass a man on a motorcycle. It is unclear whether the officer made a mistake or if he knowingly broke the rule, but as he passed the motorcycle, he struck it.

The motorcycle driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The officer was charged with reckless driving. The report also states that he had used his lights and sirens in an unlawful manner, but no further details have been given.

This is a good example of how a simple mistake of the road can lead to legal trouble for a driver. Even if a person was not speeding or breaking any other laws, passing someone unlawfully can lead to a reckless driving charge. A person charged with a similar offense may want to consult an experienced attorney. An attorney can help a driver decide whether or not he or she should plead guilty or fight a ticket in court.
