Man accused of domestic violence held without bond.

Most Georgia residents are aware that when it comes to crime, authorities are particularly quick to act when there is an accusation of violence. Domestic violence accusations can leave an alleged offender facing some serious penalties if found guilty. Domestic violence means an act of aggression has been committed by one person against another member of a household.

Recently, a Georgia man accompanied his girlfriend to a veterinary clinic to seek assistance for the woman's dog. According to reports, the woman slipped a note to an employee of the clinic, allegedly stating that the man was armed, and that she had been a victim of domestic violence. The woman wanted someone to help her, and asked that the staff not let the man know she had accused him.

The staff of the veterinary clinic reportedly contacted authorities, who came to the scene and made contact with the victim. Upon hearing her story, they sent her to a local medical facility to treat the wounds she claimed the man had inflicted upon her the previous evening. They arrested the man soon after, and he is currently facing charges that include domestic violence. He is being held without bond.

Those accused of domestic violence may worry that they are already guilty in the eyes of the law, and that police and the courts will automatically take the side of an alleged victim. Fortunately, this is not the case. Anyone accused of a crime in Georgia is entitled to a defense and due process of law. An accused individual has the right to hire an experienced attorney, who can help prepare and present an meaningful defense in court.
