Football players arrested for marijuana possession

Football is a major part of many people's weekend in Georgia. Residents often get highly invested in both college and professional teams, and often, in the careers of specific players. Some fans become so invested that even the possibility that a player may miss an important game is distressing. This is the case for two college football players recently arrested on marijuana possession charges as well as traffic violations.

Late on the evening of Dec. 2, authorities pulled over a vehicle containing two passengers for speeding. The car was allegedly traveling more than 85 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. Authorities claimed that the car smelled heavily of marijuana, and they conducted a search of the vehicle. Reports claim that the officers found some loose marijuana and a plastic bag containing the drug in the car.

Both the driver and the passenger were arrested for possession of marijuana of less than one ounce. The driver was also charged with DUI drugs and speeding in addition to the drug charges. These charges could affect both players' eligibility to play in the New Year's Day bowl game that their team is participating in.

Marijuana possession charges like these are not uncommon. Many people are charged with possessing a very small amount of the substance. Georgia residents who have been charged with drug crimes could benefit from consulting with a local lawyer. An attorney may be able to help ensure that proper procedure was followed at all times and that his or her client has the strongest possible defense.
