Estate administration can be stressful -- do not go it alone

Even if the loss of a loved one was expected, it is still an emotional time for most families. While surviving family members grieve, they still have to summon the energy to deal with all of the legal and financial issues that follow a death. Estate administration can be stressful, and there is no need for Georgia residents to go through it alone.

Even an uneventful probate requires that certain steps be taken in order to properly administer the estate such as court filings, valuing the assets of the estate and determining what taxes, if any, need to be paid. Most people who are appointed as executors in the will of a loved one do not have the legal acumen to handle the position's duties alone. Fortunately, nothing precludes an executor from enlisting the services of an attorney to help handle these tasks.

Even with a will, the probate process can be confusing and stressful. Complications can arise such as will contests, problems with creditors and taxation issues. Being able to anticipate any potential issues could help resolve matters before they cause delays and diminish the estate. If an issue cannot be resolved, it might be necessary to litigate the matter. Without assistance and guidance, the distribution of assets to heirs and beneficiaries could be jeopardized.

Most people take their responsibilities as executor seriously, but some may be unsure of how to proceed. You should have the freedom to mourn your loss and not worry about the probate process. Therefore, if you were appointed the executor of a family member's estate here in Georgia, it would be beneficial to find an estate administration attorney.
