Situations in which multiple fatalities are an outcome can leave numerous people feeling devastated. When the situation is an accident caused by a drunk driver, many individuals affected may feel as if the tragedy could have been prevented if the driver had not chosen to get behind the wheel. Unfortunately, drivers under the influence of alcohol cause numerous accidents every year, and innocent lives are often lost as a result.
It was recently reported that a drunk driver caused an accident in Georgia that led to multiple fatalities and serious injuries. Reports indicated that a driver had gotten on Interstate 75 traveling the wrong direction when his vehicle collided with another one. The second vehicle contained two adults and three children. The children were all under the age of 10.
One adult and two children -- an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl -- were killed in the accident. Another adult and a 3-year-old child suffered serious injuries and were reportedly in critical condition at the time of the report. It was not noted whether the alleged drunk driver was injured in the crash, but it was reported that he is facing charges for DUI, vehicular homicide and other allegations.
Family members of the victims lost in the Georgia accident caused by a drunk driver have already expressed grief over losing loved ones at such a young age, and the coming months will likely continue to be difficult. Due to the nature of the incident, the families affected by the situation and the seriously injured parties may wish to consider filing civil claims against the driver considered at fault. If the driver is convicted of the charges leveled against him, that outcome may be offered as evidence in related civil cases and potentially increase the chances of success.
