Georgia soldier killed in accident caused by a drunk driver

Getting a flat tire can be a considerable inconvenience, and many travelers have had to stop in order to change a tire. Unfortunately, having to stop on the side of the road can be a dangerous action, and other drivers could pose a threat. If another driver is impaired, an individual stopped on the side of the road could potentially become the victim of an accident caused by a drunk driver.

A recent accident took place in Georgia that resulted in the death of one individual. It was reported that a National Guard soldier had been traveling the roadway when his vehicle sustained a flat tire. The man stopped and exited his vehicle in order to change the tire. While performing this action, his vehicle was hit in the back by another vehicle. As a result, the man was hit by his own vehicle.

The accident led to the soldier suffering fatal injuries. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot, but he was apparently apprehended later by authorities. At this time, authorities believe the driver of the second vehicle was under the influence when the accident occurred. He is facing hit and run, DUI and other charges.

When an accident caused by a drunk driver results in a fatality, the family of the victim likely wants answers as to how the situation occurred. They may also be interested in the criminal charges leveled against the driver considered at fault. If a driver is convicted of charges resulting from a fatal accident, the family of the victim may be able to use that information as evidence if they wish to pursue a civil case. Wrongful death claims could help Georgia families seek compensation for their losses, financial burdens and other permitted damages.
