Georgia woman attacked by dog may be entitled to compensation

Man’s best friend can sometimes become man’s worst nightmare, especially when a dog launches an unprovoked attack. Dog bite wounds can leave a victim suffering from pain and disfiguring scars. One Georgia woman recently learned the consequences of dog bites after she suffered a terrifying attack and may, as a result, end up seeking compensation for her injuries.

According to the police report, the 57-year-old woman was engaged in the normal routine of checking her mailbox. She was headed back toward her home when her neighbor’s dog attacked her from behind. She suffered wounds to her back, lower torso and arm before she was able to escape the dog.

She was transported by emergency personnel for treatment of her injuries. Police are still investigating the incident, but state that the dog has a history of aggression. It was taken into the custody of animal control until the investigation is completed. As the dog was unleashed and supposedly unsupervised at the time of the attack, the owner may be fined for having the animal unrestrained. In an alternate scenario, the dog may be euthanized if it is determined that it is too dangerous and the owner is unwilling to take the mandated safety measures.

The victim may have a lengthy recovery ahead of her as dog bite wounds are often difficult to treat and slow to heal. If she is employed, she may also sustain financial losses for any time that she is unable to work. Georgia victims are entitled to seek compensation through a personal injury suit whenever an owner fails to take the necessary precautions to ensure that his or her pet does not present a danger to others.
