Georgia town seeks to aid woman injured by suspected drunk driver

A fundraiser set up by a friend enabled residents of one Georgia town to pitch in their time and resources to help one of their own. A tragic accident early last month left one young mother seriously injured and her young son killed after being hit by a suspected drunk driver. While the woman was unable to attend the event, it was successful in raising some much-needed money.

The accident that caused the 22-year-old mother to lose her 4-year-old son occurred in early June of this year. The driver who smashed head-on into her vehicle was apparently witnessed to have been traveling in an erratic manner before the wreck. The man who police believe to have been responsible has so far been charged with driving without a valid license.

Georgia police have stated that they will be charging the 38-year-old man with driving under the influence after the investigation has been completed and the man is released from doctors’ care. The mother is also hospitalized and has only left the medical center once in order to attend the funeral for her little boy. The fundraiser that was recently held was reported to have raised over $4,400 dollars to be added to other funds that have been donated to help pay for the child’s funeral and the mother’s medical care.

This mother may also consider the filing of a wrongful death suit as well as a personal injury claim against the man who is alleged to have been a drunk driver at the time of the wreck. Nothing will ever restore this lost child to his mother, and no litigation will heal her emotional wounds. However, if her civil cases were to be successful, she may be able to obtain financial relief from the heavy monetary burden that this tragic accident has added to her physical suffering.
