Drunk driver says other driver is at fault for fatal wreck

A car accident in Georgia claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman, and now one of the drivers involved in the crash — who was legally drunk — is claiming that it was the other car’s fault for the wreck occurring at all.

The crash happened when the drunk man slammed into the rear of another vehicle that had three people inside. One of them was the 26-year-old woman who was tossed from the vehicle due to the force of the collision. She was taken to a hospital, but she did not survive the catastrophic injuries she suffered. The man who crashed into the back of her vehicle was given a blood alcohol test and it came back with a 0.105 reading, beyond the 0.08 limit.

The man is now being charged with a bevy of crimes, including homicide by vehicle. He claimed in court that he was only going 60 miles per hour when the car accident occurred (even though police say he was going roughly 100 miles per hour). He also said that the driver of the other vehicle is responsible for the wreck because he or she pulled out in front of him.

Driving drunk is so silly and upsetting at this point. How many stories like this have to occur before people realize that consuming excessive amounts of alcohol and getting behind the wheel of a car is negligent, irresponsible and downright stupid? Such a decision is reckless, and any harm that a drunk driver causes other people due to his or her negligent operation of a vehicle could result in them being held liable in criminal and civil court.
